Of course you realize that the Democrats have controlled the Senate and Congress for the last year and have done nothing to create jobs. In fact everything they have done, bailouts etc. will continue to reduce jobs in this country. Glad I didn't vote for Obama.

"Extending unemployment would 'create undesirable incentives for individuals to delay returning to work..." I truely believe that my finace who has been a heavy equipment operator for over 25 years and moved to Nevada 3 years ago - who was making $20 an hour - would much rather be working than sitting at home collecting unemployment of $285 a week. What do you think? In this job market even applying for jobs in warehousing or truck driving (has his CDL - but not 2 years current driving history) he hasn't been able to find a job. He's not too proud to apply for jobs as a cook or a janitor - but that isn't his background so employers are hesitant to hire him since he may leave and return to construction - WHAT CONSTRUCTION JOBS? The shovel ready jobs with go to union companies - they'll be the only ones to benefit from those projects - not the rest of us! Yeah right extending unemployment benefits will encourage people not to return to work - it will help pay the bills right now, help feed the family and keep the house payments made so we don't lose the house. A job would be nice! We'd really like to be able to buy some groceries.

Got NEWS for ya. There ARE NO JOBS!!!!!!!! All the jobs lost are not coming back. The Government has sold us out by letting CORPORATE AMERICA and the Wall Street pirates DO AS THEY PLEASE. They got a BAILOUT for being Thieves and lairs. Average Joe and Jane America GOT JACKED in the process. They have sent most of our manufacturing base to foreign countries for SLAVE labor. And we have sooooo many Non-Americans here who have taken jobs that should be had by Americans. Unemployment money is barely a get by. THE BIG QUESTION I ask of the scum in D.C. IS WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT BRINGING PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS BACK? Nobody seems to be asking that question what-so-ever. I want my job back but thanks to scum from Wall Street that isn't going to happen.

You are right on brother. And as far as I can see everything that Obama and his Democratics have done is to reduce jobs rather than increase them. Of course I don't know if the Republicans would be doing much better. We need a 3rd party as soon as possible.

    Hello Big Shots in DC?

The unemployment payments are POVERTY WAGES. It doesn't even come close to paying for my moderate middle class life style. What you ought to be concerned about is that a good percentage of your worker bees find other hives or build their own! As big business decreases worker's wages/benefits and increases corporate profits, more and more of us will work for small competitors or ourselves and they won't have any one to do their dirty work. We know that business, government and unions are involved in a long-term threesome that is DESTROYING the middle class.

    Dear Fellow Unemployed:

    1) KEEP REPORTING YOUR UNEMPLOYED STATUS even after you've been left to die
    2) Call AND write your Congressmen all of the time, about everything that is wrong
    3) NEVER, EVER trust an employer to take care of your needs
    4) Join a small or medium sized company over a large corporation if at all possible
    5) Open your own business if at all possible.
    6) Refrain from purchasing products made by big business
    7) Listen to my song "Incite Social Evolution" FREE at http://www.sassyalternativemusic.com/downloads

    9) Spread the word.

Since I've been unemployed, learning about the deception and greed that operates our country, I make music to help the middle class empower ourselves against the abuses prevalent in our society today. The more the powers that be try to bring us to our knees, the louder I scream for the masses to wake up and take action to govern the country and our lives with justice.

I totally agree with the causes of our problems and the list of actions to take. I might add that since there aren't going to be any new jobs created under Obama and the unemployment insurance will eventually stop one should consider moving to another country...

I am now confused about what the total length of unemployment can be. The last article I read a few weeks ago indicated the new total would be 92 weeks. Maybe this is that same bill struggling to get approved.

I guess that this is yet another extension making the total length of time about 2 yrs as mentioned in the article be a Republican.

This sorry government can pay the taliban $1.6 billon to switch sides in the war (I don't have enough room here to point out the problems with this stupid plan) but they can't figure out how to come up with the money to help thousands of unemployed AMERICANS and they want to bicker over it in the senate. I wish I lived on an island where I was my own president. Until then I have to starve in the food stamp line here in the good old USA. I am a vetran by they so don't ever accuse me of being unpatriotic.

Republicans had warned that the bill would extend benefits for a period totaling nearly two full years, giving credence to "the concerns of noted economist Martin Feldstein, who previously testified that extended unemployment would 'create undesirable incentives for individuals to delay returning to work. That would lower earnings and total spending.' "

Are Republican the most STUPID people on the planet. Do these frickin idiots thing unemployment can support a real life with bills, a home, hell it barely covers utilities. What a bunch of dumb asses.

As you know unemployment was never established to be a living wage and only 26 weeks in duration. Also the Democrats are running the show at this time so I don't know why you are blaming the Republicans although I don't know if they would be doing any better if in charge...
